* Weight distributing systems may be used to compliment any Putnam Class 3 receivers with 2" weight distributing hitch bar head and Class 2 receivers with 1¼" weight distributing hitch bar head.
** Designates applicable load rating for Class 3 receivers when used in conjunction with a weight distributing system.
*** Class 4 applies to some models, check manufacturer's rating.
Determination of Weights
| Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) is the total weight of the trailer when fully loaded. GTW can be measured on a commercial scale. | ![]() |
| Tongue Weight (TW) is the amount of downward pressure
exerted by the trailer tongue on the hitch ball. TW up to 300 LBS can be
measured by placing the tongue on a bathroom scale.
To measure heavier TW, use the method shown in the illustration. Be sure the trailer is level. To determine the vehicle's towing capacity check the owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer. |
